Kate Westphal

Kate was hired last February as a seasonal staff member, and has since become part of the full time staff. Her roll at Rutabaga includes working on the sales floor and creating signage for the store.

Kate graduated from MATC with a Fashion Marketing Degree in December 2013 with plans to start her career in outdoor apparel. Rutabaga is a retailer that carries a lot of prominent and well known brands/vendors in the outdoor industry as well as new and up in coming brands. This, along with her love for the outdoors and canoeing brought her to Rutabaga.

Kate’s role at Canoecopia is essentially helping with whatever needs to be done. Last year she worked registers and helped with some volunteer coordination.  She has only one Canoecopia under my belt so far but is very excited for number 2! Her favorite part of Canoecopia is seeing all the different facets of the industry and the people that are a part of it. She also said “It is pretty cool to see the hall fill and then empty out again.”

On her days off, Kate likes to hang out with friends and do things outside. Depending upon what time of the year it is, this could be bird watching, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, or paddling! If Kate could paddle with anyone, she would choose David Attenburough; he inspires her with his films about the natural world.
