Originally designed for flatwater racing, bent shaft paddles are ideal for cruising on flatwater. Designed for a shorter, more efficient stroke, the 14-degree bend and wide blade produces more power so you paddle longer with less fatigue.
The BB Special offers flat water cruising performance for a reasonable price. The blade consists of seven laminates of basswood, maple, and cherry. If you're just exploring the bent-shaft world, here's a good place to start. You'll like it.
If you stop in and visit the shop, you'll see that we have one of the original BB paddles built over 20 years ago. It's on loan indefinitely, and it's pretty cool.

  • Blade size: 8” x 20”
  • Shaft type: 12 laminate bent shaft
  • Asymetrical grip
  • Rockgard™ color: Caramel

Had previous one and got another   rating
Th is was a gift for someone who already had the BB Special for 17 yr and it is pretty beat up but still hanging in. Hopeful the craftsmanship remains unchanged for this new one.

Beautifully made   rating
This is the first bending Branches bent shaft paddle I have bought and it did not disappoint. It's very well made, lightweight, and is easy and comfortable to paddle with. Looking it over, the construction is excellent: tight, uniform gluelines; the wood shows no 'tear-out', even under the finish. The finish preparation and finish itself is very well done---no sanding marks on the wood, and a nice, even, drip/run-free finish. The handle and throat areas are well shaped and transition very nicely into the shaft. I guess there are other designs and materials out there, but for the money this one is hard to beat.
