I have a 17 foot Old Town Penobscot that was too heavy for me to carry alone. I didn't intend to portage much with this boat (83 lbs), but I still have to get it to and from the water. I used my new pads last week and carried the boat by myself about 200 yards over easy ground and I wasn't tired in the least. I'm very happy with these pads.

Purchased these for my new OT Penobscot 17. I've only used the block style pads before, these seem to be an upgrade in comfort. The bracket is just wide enough to be in the correct position on the wide section of the carrying thwart. A narrower shouldered person might have trouble placing these in the correct position on the O.T. carrying thwart.

These pads are easy to use and worth the extra expense. I just used them for the first time, and they helped make a 10 lake 9 portage 7 hour day paddle from camp a pleasure for my wife and I.

This is a well made product and makes carrying a canoe a breeze. Attention to detail was apparently in the mind of the designers. I recommend this product to those of you who want to make portaging a canoe much easier. I clicked the standard shipping method when I ordered the yoke pads and received them very quickly. Great service from Rutabaga.

I'm quite pleased with the product. The adjustability is quite handy and the comfort wonderful. Haven't taken it out on a trip yet, but have been walking around the yard and up and down the street with the canoe over my head, just because I can. (I know, that's weird, but i want to know it will work.)
Now that I've been able to test the product, I'll be ordering a another pair for my second canoe. Thanks!

I have a Wenonah Solo Plus which has a middle seat as well as two for tandem paddling. This created a challenge for portages more than a couple dozen yards.
I used these clamp-on Yoke Pads to portage up to 3/4 mile one-way on a recent trip. They were easy to position on the middle seat and then relocate to an alternative position while paddling. The design and performance exceeded my expectations, and, made the relatively high price worth paying.

First you need to know that I bought two sets one for an Old Town Tripper and another for a Discovery 164. After many portages without, the new pads make both canoes feel like a 60 lbs canoe and help manage the the direction of the canoe. Evan my 16 year old son thought they were great!!
