For those folks who know axes, this axe has obvious value. But for those who may be choosing their first axe, or want one axe for multiple tasks, then I would suggest this to be the perfect axe. The handle is long enough that overhead chopping with two hand feels comfortable, however the length isn't too long that it isn't packable or swingable with one arm. The face is large enough to split medium sized logs while small enough to be palmed for kindling cutting.

It all comes down to the steel and the wood in an axe. Combine great steel with outstanding wood in the handle and it will give you the reliability and strength you need. It is the craftsmen who beat beauty and finesse out of the steel that makes these axes so wonderful to use. Lightly heat the head and then coat it with a furniture wax and you have an old blacksmith's trick to help keep rust and water at bay. A little oil to treat the cutting edge and you have a tool that may out live you.
