Small Forest Axe
The Small Forest Axe has a great traditional pattern and poll that you expect from a useful forest axe. The blade is thin. The handle is long enough to allow powerful chopping but not too long so it will fit into a pack or a boat. It is practical for splitting small sticks for the fire or cutting small-diameter limbwood for starter fuel in a fireplace. The axe has a 3 1/4" face and a 19" hickory handle and the head weighs 1 1/2 lb. It comes with a grain-leather sheath.

I bought this many years ago and have used it as my camp axe and it has alway served me well. The only thing I have ever done is keep it starp, put a light coat of W/D 40 and enjoy it. If you think the price is a little high, but like getting your money's worth out of your purchases, then this is the axe for you. It is worth every penny I paid for it. The only thing that I every did worng with was to put a handle on it from the hardware store. That didn't feel right and soon broke. The next time I used Gransfors Bruks replacement handles and it was back to felling good in my hands. Understand, though this is a SMALL forest axe and while it can handle some fair sized log/limbs, if you are doing allot of heavy log spliting etc. You may need a bigger axe with a bigger head/edge. This one is great for camping and a good size for conoeing where weight is an issue. I love it. Happy trails.

Like any other Gransfors Bruks axe, the small forest axe is a magnificent tool. Suitable for use as a back country axe yet with enough heft to easily take care of smaller jobs around the home or farm. Once you've used a GB axe, you won't want to use another.
