The Nova Craft Supernova was designed as the ideal solution for the paddler who loves to do solo wilderness river trips. While the Supernova hull characteristics do what you'd expect from a white water boat - like keep you dry and effortlessly surf a wave - where you really appreciate the canoe is the flat water sections in between the frothy stuff.
The Supernova would be most appreciated by experienced paddlers who enjoy messing around in rapids. Even though it comes to life in the rough stuff, it retains enough of a quiet nature that it won't feel out of place for a casual paddle on the local pond. In the hands of a competent paddler the Supernova is an excellent dance partner.
Beyond strength, TuffStuff canoes offer other advantages over conventional thermoformed plastic canoes. They are much stiffer, which leads to greatly improved performance and efficiency. Easy glide motion and faster response are evident after only a few paddle strokes. TuffStuff is also lighter than conventional plastic boats. TuffStuff is quite a material.

TuffStuff Expedition (TSE) is a more robust, heavier duty version of Nova Craft's standard TuffStuff construction. These canoes are an excellent choice for an expedition grade canoe for extended wilderness trips and some whitewater use. Stiff for great performance, incredible impact resistance and lightweight all in one canoe. You can see some of the abuse these canoes can take on their YouTube channel here.
The Supernova is a fantastic WW canoe for the non-kneeling canoeist. It is very good up to class III white water and can with proper outfitting and skill go beyond that. It is my go to canoe for the class I & II streams that surround my town home of Lafayette Indiana. I’ve had it in class III WW and it did quite well with float bags in the ends. It will ride dry over large standing waves and through big hydraulic jumps, but it’s on surfing class II waves that I’ve had the most pleasure using it. It front and back surfs very well and is Ok for a side surf, just watch out for window shading. It’s when you get on the flat sections that it really surprises you since it tracks well and has a descent cursing speed. It will also carry a good load and still perform well in WW. I have used others solo boats, but this is the one I bought at Canoecopia back in 2006 and I have never regretted it. I also have only good comments from those that have used it. Bottom Line this is one of the best moving water solo canoes around.
