Your first bike wasn't a tandem bicycle, right? Solo canoes are great for loads of tasks, and they have the advantage of not requiring a partner to get out on the water. They're also lighter and easier to move around. In fact, a lot of us paddle two solos together instead of tandem. Sure, they have slightly less capacity than the big tandems, but you can just pack a little lighter.
