Product Details

We pride ourselves in having a wide selection of make and models to choose from at Rutabaga, but that means that we sometimes don't have specific models or colors shown on our sales floor. If you want to come and check out a specific boat on our sales floor, please call or email us in advance to set up a viewing appointment. If we don't have the exact make and model you're after on the floor, it could take 45 minutes or more to retrieve that specific boat from our warehouses.

If you want a good river canoe that can still paddle lakes, the Aurora’s a good choice. We know from experience that it’s a great boat for fun in moving water.

Designed for exploring, day-tripping, and moving water adventures. The Aurora is a downsized version of the Spirit II--a nimble 16-foot canoe with plenty of stability and efficiency. The Aurora is shorter than the Spirit, but still carries a load. It turns quicker in moving water and is ideal for exploring Northwoods rivers. Like the Spirit, the Aurora has an efficient hull that glides smoothly across the water, confidence-inspiring stability and predictable performance in wind and waves. There's good reason the Aurora is among Wenonah's best selling canoes.

Materials

T-Formex
T-Formex canoes are manufactured from multi-laminate sheets, painstakingly designed specifically for each model. All include a closed-cell, rigid foam core providing structure and buoyancy. T-Formex canoes are incredibly tough and very affordable. This makes them the ideal choice for sportsmen, whitewater paddlers, families and kids, or anybody who wants a very durable canoe. These canoes are much lighter than polyethylene or aluminum canoes and can be built in nearly limitless designs. We offer many models in T-Formex, ranging from cost-conscious touring and sport canoes, to robust whitewater assault canoes.

Tuf-weave Flex-Core
Wenonah's Tuf-weave® material is an interwoven fabric made of 50% polyester and 50% fiberglass that out performs either material alone. The Tuf-weave® layup results in our most durable composite canoes. Tuf-weave® canoes offer improved impact resistance and are a great compromise between light weight, performance, and price.

Ultra-light w/ Aramid
Wenonah’s Ultra-light hulls are stiff and incredibly light. They are ideal for efficient distance paddling and for all people or conditions that demand the lightest gear. Our construction features a structural core and ribs laminated into the hull and sides. Extra fabric layers are then added to strengthen specific targeted areas.

Aluminum plates are strategically laminated into the hull, onto which seats, foot braces and all hardware are then riveted. This gives a highly secure connection and eliminates rivet heads on the exterior.

Ultra-light w/ Aramid Gel Bottom
Ultra-light hulls are stiff and incredibly light. They are ideal for speed and distance paddling and for all people or conditions that demand the lightest gear. In our Ultra-light construction a structural-foam core and ribs are laminated into the hull and sides. We also add extra fabric layers to strengthen specific targeted areas. Aluminum plates are strategically laminated into the hull. Seats, footbraces, and all hardware is then riveted into these plates. This gives a very secure connection and eliminates rivet heads on the exterior. Aramid, the fiber used for aerospace, body armor and bulletproof vests, is amazingly light and strong. We've used it for more than 30 years to construct extremely light and tough canoes. Wenonah Canoe is the worlds largest maker of canoes using Aramid.

Gunwales

All Wood
All-wood trim is an option on all composite solo and tandem canoes (except the Backwater) and includes hardwood inwales, outwales, end caps, thwarts and handles. Finished with three coats of oil, natural colored wood is standard and a darker walnut stain is optional. Please note, Wenonah's wood selection varies based on the availability of quality wood from sustainable sources. Fasteners are stainless steel. Wood trim is an additional charge.

All Wood Trim
Ash is a hardwood that is strong, long-grained, compression-resistant, and flexible. In short, the perfect wood for gunwales. It's also warm to the touch and looks beautiful. Wenonah's all wood trim also has ash thwarts, carrying handles, and an ash yoke.

Black Aluminum
Aluminum gunwales are extruded to provide a lightweight, stiff, and stable gunwale material for all sorts of boats. Many manufacturers have a specific shape for their brands. Wenonah also has an option for black anodized aluminum. There is no performance difference, just a cosmetic preference.

VersiGunwale
The VersiGunwale is a new, exciting option for all Wenonah composite canoes. The new VersiGunwale is slotted on the inner-facing side bow-to-stern to accept all common rail-mounted fishing and accessories. The VersiGunwale also brings additional strength and rigidity to the canoe with only a small weight increase.

Wood and Aluminum
Ash is a hardwood that is strong, long-grained, compression-resistant, and flexible. In short, the perfect wood for gunwales. It's also warm to the touch and looks beautiful.

Wenonah gives you the beauty of wood but the weight savings of aluminum by combining wood gunwales and aluminum thwarts and carrying handles.
